For those individuals who like to own and rent out property, we understand at Keyrenter Chicago North that it can be tough to obtain and keep good tenants for your apartments, houses, or other rooms. More often than not, you will find that you either have rental properties that aren’t full of tenants, or you have properties that are full of tenants with “bad eggs”, so to speak, here or there that have to be kicked out.

The purpose of this post is to discuss ways that you can advertise your properties in order to ensure that you get the wonderful (and wonderfully-paying…) tenants that you want by advertising your properties.

1. Good Old-Fashioned Newspaper

We know, we know…people don’t read the newspaper anymore, right? Wrong! According to many studies, those people who are 55+ still read the newspaper rather frequently. In fact, it is considered their preferred source of media. Furthermore, since the market crashed in 2008, out of luck older individuals who were about to retire have been struggling to get by.

These are exactly the kind of people that you want as tenants! They are usually calmer than the younger generations, they are working hard to regain their retirement dreams, and they are looking for cheaper housing options than owning a home outright. So, make sure that you advertise your residence in the local paper with the kind of tenants that you want. We’ll take care of the rest once they’re inside the doors!

2. Sponsored Ads

Promoting your business online to potential tenants through sponsored search engine ads is always a tried-and-true method of driving revenue via obtaining tenants. By paying different search engines on a monthly basis, they will make sure that anyone searching for a place to stay who lives in your area will see your business first.

Now, this method is not as target as others, so you may get a couple of tenants who are not particularly ideal. But if you are struggling to keep your residences full most of the time, this might not be a terrible place to start.

3. Online Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Listings

There are more places than ever for you to list your properties online and target certain resident demographics. Airbnb.com and Homeaway.com are prominent examples of how individuals who own properties can use the web to advertise to a wide swath of potential tenants for a low monthly subscription fee. You can list your property, name your price according to the length of stay, and list all of the amenities that come with the property. Boom! You have tenants!

As always, Keyrenter Chicago North is here to help you with managing your properties. If you need help finding high-quality tenants, don’t hesitate to give us a call!
